Frederick Herting, who, during the Second World War had been employed as a horizontal miller for the Napier Aero Engine Factory in Acton, originally established an Engineering Tool Merchants during the post war period. As time went on the business moved more and more to supplying the construction industry, having identified a need for a much more immediate and convenient source of supply.
At that time builders tended to trade from their yard stock, distributing goods to each site themselves. F P Herting pioneered the daily site delivery service, now emulated across the industry.
The running of the Company now extends to a third generation of the Herting family; Paul and Neil, John's sons, taking responsibility for Sales & Buying and Personnel & Operations respectively. John's wife, Janet works behind the scenes as Company Secretary. Roy Hulbert, as National Sales Manager has worked for the company for over twenty five years.
The company now employs over one hundred people, and supplies goods on a next day delivery, throughout England and Wales, via our own fleet of over fifty transit vans. We supply every household name in the building industry and many of their smallest sub-contract carpenters and bricklayers - a far cry from the days of the Tool Shop in Wembley!
